Aerodrome Safeguarding

We provide comprehensive OLS modelling, survey, and analysis services. Our in-house aviation experts model your OLS to NZ Part 139 and ICAO Annex 14 requirements. We can also model other important aviation considerations such as CAA Part 77 obstacle notification surfaces (cranes), Visual Segments Surfaces (VSS), and published or concept instrument procedures. We have extensive experience collecting OLS survey data using our aerial and ground-based systems. Leveraging the strengths of both photogrammetry and LiDAR technologies allows a more complete and detailed representation of the airport environment in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Our OLS analysis service evaluates the impact of terrain and obstacles that affect the airport's operational OLS. We can then work with our aviation consultant partners to develop recommendations for their management.

SBAS is being considered by the Ministry of Transport and Land Information New Zealand as part of a wider intelligent transport system (ITS) capability. A robust survey control network is essential for implementing Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) procedures at aerodromes. We remain up to date with Aeropath's latest requirements for airport surveys to enable SBAS procedures. Our service delivers precise geodetic coordinates meeting SouthPAN SBAS accuracy and datum standards, ensuring the aviation facility is well equipped to take advantage of this exciting new technology.

By leveraging our internal aviation expertise alongside dedicated consultant partners, we provide a comprehensive review and update service for airport Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) aerodrome plates. This supplementary service, integrated with our OLS and Airport Layout Plan offerings, presents an ideal opportunity to enhance airport information with insights gained from the OLS review. This process guarantees the accuracy of the aerodrome plate and operational data,
ensuring it remains a reliable reference for airport users.

Utilizing our aviation expertise and advanced technology, we can also offer aerodrome lighting audit services. When combined with scheduled obstacle surveying, this audit yields significant operational efficiencies. We are also exploring the use of unmanned aircraft for approach path lighting testing and calibration.

To supplement our analysis, we are developing strong relationships with several airport consultants including Mike Haines Aviation Ltd who have extensive experience with airport operations, safety management systems, aeronautical studies, and regulatory advice. We engage airport consultants specializing in obstacle assessment for several reasons including: to validate the survey criteria is correct with respect to Civil Aviation Rules; to validate the aerodrome physical characteristics are correct; and confirm survey data and other information against the published AIPNZ data for the aerodrome.

Vegetation management is a critical aspect of aerodrome operations to ensure the safety and efficiency of aircraft movements. It involves the systematic control and maintenance of plant growth in and around aerodrome areas, particularly near runways, taxiways, and other crucial operational zones.
